What's the story?
The light goes out, and your daughter's room fills with strange shapes: something tall behind the door, a big shadow on the wall, a strange glow between the curtains. She grabs her little flashlight and shines it on each one in turn — and there's the coat hanging on the door, her teddy's shadow, and the moon peeking through the window. Every “monster” was a friend in disguise all along. By the end of the night she drifts off feeling safe, because the dark has become a cozy blanket for dreams.
How is the book personalized?
Send us your child's name and a clear photo of their face. We turn the photo into an illustrated character who appears on every page, and print their name on the cover and throughout the story. You'll get a PDF of the full book within 24 hours of ordering to review with us. Nothing goes to print until you approve it.

She faces the dark with her own hands
Telling a child “there's nothing in the dark” rarely works. Letting her see for herself what's hiding behind every shadow does. In this book, your daughter holds the flashlight and uncovers each shape on her own, so she comes out of the story knowing she can do it.

A little bedtime ritual
Try reading the story with the night light on, then going on a hunt together for the “friends in disguise” in her room: the coat, the teddy, the moon. It's a simple game that turns the moment before sleep from fear into curiosity, and makes the book part of your evening routine.

Questions about “Not Afraid of the Dark”
Is there anything in it that might scare a very young child?
No. The strange shapes appear only for a moment before they're revealed: a coat on the door, a teddy's shadow, the moon at the window. The colors are soft, the ending is warm, and the story is written to be read quietly before sleep.
What kind of photo do you need?
A clear photo of the face in natural light is all it takes — a phone photo is perfect. Avoid dark photos or ones where the face is turned to the side. If the photo won't work, we'll tell you and ask for another before we start.
Can I add a dedication on the first page?
Yes. Write us the dedication you'd like — a line or a paragraph — and we'll print it on the first page in elegant type. It's the page parents come back to years later.
What language is the book in?
English — short, warm sentences made for reading aloud, with your child's name on the cover and throughout the story. You'll see the cover in the free preview, and the whole book in the proof before we print.
What if I don't love the book?
We don't print anything until you've seen the digital proof and approved it. And if your printed book arrives with a printing defect, we'll reprint and ship it again for free.
